Mar 02, 2006 I can't open DMG-files anymore because OS X associates dmg-files with another program. Usually when I opend.dmg files a 'virtual disk' opened, now another program starts. I tried the Open with (Openen met in Dutch) function, but I don't know which program I have to choose. When I have this problem on a Windows PC I just select explorer.exe. What you may have done is run Firefox directly from the DMG, instead of 'installing' Firefox. Then, perhaps after a reboot, the DMG got unmounted (essentially 'unplugged', no longer looking like a drive) and so you couldn't find the icon any more. It's an easy mistake to make. To actually 'install' something from a DMG in Mac is really easy.
Can someone out there help me with this? I have a Mac with OS X version 10.3.9. So far I've been using the Safari browser and wanted another option, i.e. Mozilla's Firefox. After downloading the Firefox 2.0.0.1.dmg, I dragged the icon to the Finder's Mac HD section and double clicked it there. The following message appeared: 'Warning - The following disk image Firefox 2.0.0.1.dmg failed to mount. Reason: No mountable file systems.'O.k. so now what do I do?

Hello rollinglenn,
I see that your MacBook stopped opening .DMG files after you updated to macOS Sierra. I can imagine it's concerning to have something not work like it did on a previous operating system. I'm happy to help assist you in finding the best resolution.
macOS should read these files and you should be able to open them fine with no issues, so I would suggest doing a fresh restart of your computer to see if that helps.
If you still have an issue after that, try a backup of your Mac's important data and a reinstall of macOS using the following articles:
Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac
How to reinstall macOS
Please let us know if this helps.
Have a great day!
